Baltkran cranes for the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh | |||||
Rosatom has started constructing Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The plant will include two power units, each 1200 MW capacity, built as per the Russian project "NPP-2006". The units built under this project are nuclear units generation "3+" with improved performance indicators and comply with the latest requirements of reliability and safety. Additional megawatts of energy will allow Bangladesh to develop the industry and create new jobs. The government aims at improving living standards of the population, this aim inextricably bound up with the construction of the nuclear power plant.
All equipment used at the NPP shall comply with the latest safety requirements, and shall resist hurricane, tsunami, earthquake and a plane crash.
Baltkran was selected as a crane supplier; the company has long experience of successful deliveries of high-quality, reliable, sophisticated cranes for the turbine departments of NPPs - Novovoronezh NPP, Leningrad NPP, Beloyarsk NPP, Indian NPP, and Chinese NPP among others.
Baltkran will deliver four cranes for two units of Rooppur NPP. The order, the largest one for the last three years, was placed at the end of 2018. The delivery of the cranes for the first unit of the plant will be finished in the third quarter of 2019 and in 2020 for the second unit.
Each unit will be equipped with the upper layer crane capacity 180/32+6, 3 t and 50/16+6, 3 t., which will be used for installation of heavy expensive equipment of the turbine department (parts of the turbine, generator etc.) Efficient, state-of-the-art crane control system developed by Baltkran will prevent collision of the cranes operating at different layers as well as load collision. The cranes will be designed and manufactured for the highest reliability and safety at the nuclear power plant for the whole life that is 70 years.
Interestingly, this project that is significant for two countries, is a milestone for Baltrkan - the crane for the first unit will be the 10th crane manufactured for the turbine department of an NPP with capacity more than 180t, the crane for the second unit will the 95th crane delivered to foreign NPPs as well as the 150th crane delivered by Baltrkan to NPPs since 1997.
