Research seminar in Kaliningrad

In September 2005 Kaliningrad hosted a research seminar which was attended by the representatives of Russian Railways Cargo and Commercial Department, heads of local railway stations, their chief engineers and other participants.

The participants of the conference represented 17 railway departments from Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Perm, Irkutsk, Saint-Petersburg, Arkhangelsk and other regions.

The conference was held at the joint stock company Baltkran. It was not a random choice. Nowadays many railways need new lifting equipment, which is supposed to replace the existing rather out-dated one that have been used for more then 30 years, while its expected life is 20 years. Moreover, development of the latest technologies, in particular for container transportation, led to increasing demand in the equipment that has never been used in railway shipment before. Such equipment is to correspond to modern norms and requirements. It also has to be of high quality, productive and efficient. Our company offers modern equipment in compliance with both foreign and domestic standards.
The conference included a research seminar with foreign representatives involved. One of the main issues discussed there was innovations in heavy containers handling crane production. Frequency control applied today increases crane efficiency and productivity. In comparison with other types of control, such as contactor control and pulse control, it is easier to maintain and repair. Besides, it provides with smooth cargo handling and high operation speed. Our container cranes have a module design. To provide more comfortable operation conditions cranes are equipped with high-view convenient and ergonomic cabin.

The representative of English company was one of the speakers at the conference. He reported on criteria for selecting container cranes spreaders. Following such criteria is of great importance for commercial success in cargo handling business. Innovations regarding cable systems were of great interest for representatives of railways from the north regions. Long-term using of cable systems in these areas happens to be an acute issue. Our company's chief engineer reported on the ways of increasing equipment life. His report dealt with durability of wheels and how they are affected by conditions of crane rails.

The multifunctional gantry crane KKU-12,5 was introduced to the participants of the conference. The gantry crane is designed for handling various types of cargo. It can be equipped with hook, grab, magnet and auto sling systems. It can be installed on different handling stations. Moreover, increased rail span makes it possible to handle long loads. The participants of the conference also learnt about operation of railway container platform.

A lot of reasonable and helpful suggestions were voiced by the representatives of the railways during the conference. Our personal took those ideas into consideration.
